I came across a post on the Stash Hotels Rewards blog proclaiming that five hotels take spa time as seriously as we all should, the post a shout-out to Mother’s Day activities. The images of the venues—Hidden Pond in Kennebunkport, Maine; The Essex Resort & Spa in Essex, Vermont; Hotel Julien Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa; The Lodge at Woodloch in Hawley, Pennsylvania; and the Sedona Rouge Hotel & Spa in Sedona, Arizona—along with the descriptions of the properties renewed a fantasy I’ve been nursing of late that I would like to share with our Pandora de Balthazár Experience readers.

Making Your Bed and Lying In It

As you can imagine, I spend quite a lot of time thinking about going to bed. Well, I don’t mean I while away the hours longing to lie down; I am simply always noodling about how to provide my clientele with the best experience possible when they turn off the lights at night. It isn’t just about selling my products, either, as I truly do care whether the world at large is getting enough sleep, whether they are turning in at home or during jaunts far and near.

I’ve long been fascinated by the fact that individuals and couples will spend thousands of dollars to journey to spa destinations while they deprive themselves of healing habits and treatments at home. Aren’t we missing something when we spend the majority of our days denying ourselves luxurious pampering in lieu of thinking that the next trip will serve as rejuvenation enough?

I am one of those nesters who outfits my home as closely to a spa as is possible everyday so I do practice what I am preaching here. Many of the products I use to accomplish this I have created myself—not simply relying on the word of my customers to tell me whether the products are as yummy as I believe they are, but testing them myself before releasing them into the marketplace.

Spa Time on Your Terms

I’ve been thinking lately that a tour of properties offering spa services would be a tremendous social-studies experiment and I am itching to visit hotels around the world to check out global bed-making skills (or the lack thereof)! A great deal of effort and knowledge goes into dressing a perfectly made bed, and I’d like to see how tourists everywhere are being treated when they are traveling. If you think my road trip is a great idea, let me know where you think I should go. And if you are listening, Stash Hotels Rewards, why don’t we partner on this jaunt I’d like to take?

Dressing a truly beautiful bed is an art-form that we at Pandora de Balthazár understand implicitly.

In the coming weeks, I will be sharing bed-making tips here on the Pandora de Balthazár Experience so stayed tuned because the things I know about dressing a bed are way more involved than nailing your Aunt Betsy’s hospital corners! And if you’re bound for some spa-time you may recognize me as I’m checking in: I’ll have my own bed linens and my pillows filled with Hungarian goose down tucked into a Pullman case. The hashtag for that is #justincase!
